Differentiation
Direct Instruction
Flexible Grouping: The groups will be assigned purposefully so there are a variety of learning types in each group. For instance, an ideal group would have both an outgoing and introverted student, a student who is advanced and/or interested in social studies, and a student who is neither advanced nor interested in social studies.
Concept Attainment
Concept Hierarchies: relate the new concept to previously learned concepts. Relate racism and discrimination against African Americans in the United States, to Jews in 1930’s and 1940’s Germany.
Inquiry
The inquiry lesson accommodates a variety of learning styles by utilizing a numerous of presentation styles. The Smart presentation includes open-ended questions, brainstorming section, video, interactive timeline, sorting activity, and multiple-choice questions.
Cooperative Learning
Because students are being graded by the graphic organizer, shy and introverted students are not forced to verbally participate, however, they must show participation by completing the graphic organizer. Students with writing issues or learning disabilities may write less when giving reasons in the graphic organizers (tiered assignments/products).
Choice: Cause and Effect Model
Scaffolding:Provide an example of conclusions and generalizations (that students form after they complete the model), since this tends to be more difficult than filling in causes and effects of an event.
