ObjectivesDirect Instruction (Changing Face of Women) When given a direct instruction lesson on women’s involvement during WWII and analyzing Rosie the Riveter propaganda posters, students will be able to analyze and evaluate the importance of women on the homefront, and relate how that has affected modern society today, by fully completing the accompanying worksheet. Concept (Discrimination in WWII) By completing homework, watching two short videos, and working with the class, students will understand the concept of discrimination, and how it affected African Americans and Jews during WWII. Additionally, students will be able to compare and contrast the discriminatory experiences of the aforementioned groups. Cooperative (Atomic Bomb Discussion) When given a topic for discussion, the students will discuss their original positions, as well as the opposing positions with the class, in order to form a better grasp of the dropping of the atomic bombs. Students will complete the graphic organizer with at least five reasons for each (for and against) position. Choice (Cause and Effect) Following a unit on WWII and while working with the class, students will be able to identify and sort: causes, effects, prior causes, and later effects of WWII into the cause and effect chart. There must be at least 3 events in each column. |
AssessmentsFollowing a direct instruction lesson and analyzing Rosie the Riveter propaganda posters, students will fill out 7/7 questions on the accompanying worksheet, which emphasizes the importance of women on the home front and how this changed modern society. After completing homework, watching two videos and discussing as a class, students will use a Venn diagram worksheet to: 1. Define Discrimination (1 point) 2. Compare and contrast the discriminatory experiences of African Americans and Jews during WWII (3 points) 3. Formulate a statement that summarizes the relationship between WWII and discrimination. (1 point) Venn Diagram Worksheet: 5 points total During the class discussion, students will complete the graphic organizer supplied by the teacher. Students must identify at least five reasons for each for and against position, and the joint position. *Rubric: Joint Position = 5 pts. 10+ reasons = 95 pts. 9 reasons = 85 pts. 8 reasons = 75 its… Each student must have at least 3 events, a description, and rationale of how it is a cause or effect of WWII, in each of the following columns: causes, effects, prior causes, and later effects, totaling at least 12 events.
